COVID Shutdown continues into the new year

Hello VCC Members

With the recent announcement of the continuation of the code red orders in Manitoba, the VCC Board would like to give all members a small update.

When we shut down in November, we applied for the MB Government Bridge Grant which gave us a sum of $5000 to help with our operating expenses. Other than a few checks on the building and some routine maintenance, no one has been allowed to enter our curling facility. The ice is being maintained and the grant money will allow us to operate without revenue for the time being. Curl Manitoba has also submitted for some Federal Emergency Sport Funding that will be distributed to affiliated clubs as relief funding due to the impacts of Covid-19. We will have to wait to hear more on that.

At the start of the year, we certainly didn’t expect to be shut down as soon as we did but it happened. And now with the continuation of the shut-down, we will abide by government policy but also begin planning and hope for a safe start up in the new year. Our hope is a return to play will be announced, but if we should remain in a shut-down scenario, we will discuss as a board our go forward plan from there. I think we all want to get back to playing the game but in a safe manner for all.

So for now, we wait until the new year. If we are extended further, we will discuss as a board what our go forward actions will be. The bridge money allows us to maintain our facility for the time being without using VCC funds.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to any one of our Board members.

Stay safe and healthy. We wish you all the best in the holiday season and hope to see you early in the New year.

Thank You

VCC Board of Directors
